Rebuilding Macroeconomics

Many authors have discussed ‘polycrises’ – multiple overlapping shocks in different domains. But what are the consequence for our economic policy frameworks? To what extent are inflation and fiscal targets combined with de facto ‘insurer of last resort’ the best policy mix in this context? Are we getting nearer the limits of this strategy? What does polycrisis mean for economic coordination and economic policy frameworks in both domestic and international domains?

Keynote speaker: Professor Michael Muthukrishna (Associate Professor of Economic Psychology, LSE), is author of A Theory of Everyone, described by The Economist as ‘A Fabulous Book’. Professor Muthukrishna is particularly interested in applying research in cultural evolution to public policy using computational modelling and experimental and data science methods from psychology and economics.

Discussants:

Professor Clara Mattei, Associate Professor of Economics, The New School for Social Research

Professor Alan Kirman, Director of Studies, Écoles des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS)
